Go Team Lyburn!

We were proud sponsors of a local curling team, up-and-coming Team Lyburn throughout the 2013/14 season.

Team Lyburn

We’re just like most other Canadians. After hockey, curling is the most popular sport in Canada. We enjoy curling and thought it would be fun to support Team Lyburn throughout the 2013/14 season. As they took their game up a notch, we followed their journey. Games were posted in our events calendar. We celebrated the sponsorship with a client event on March 15, 2014. Read all about the Instructional Funspiel with Team Lyburn here.

Our sponsorship of Team Lyburn was a first for Fraser & Partners. They inspired us. Their journey to third place standing at the Provincials was a testament to the possibilities. We congratulate them on their success and hope they inspired you too.

January 3, 2014:

Mid December was our Zone Playdowns to qualify for the Provincial Championship. Our 3 wins 1 loss record was good enough to punch out our ticket into the Provincial Championships slated for the end of January. Everyone was very pleased we were able to get this done.

We will be seeded in the top 5 teams at the Provincial Championship with a great opportunity to win if we can perform to our potential.

Our Schedule:

We have stepped up our practice time and all of us are working hard all January leading up to the Provincial Championship which will be held in Winnipeg this year at the MTS ICEPLEX out at the Red River EX grounds January 29 to February 2, 2014. Come out and cheer us on!

We are playing in Brandon Manitoba next weekend Jan 9th – 12th in a competitive Men’s bonspiel for additional practice.

If we win Provincials the Brier will be in Kamloops, BC at the beginning of March with the winner representing Canada at the World Championships end of March. Let’s Hope!

As far as standings go we have Slipped back to #35 in the World Tour Rankings with us not doing so well on the Cash Circuit. A win at the Provincial Championships will change that.

December 4, 2013:

Team Lyburn has had a very busy November!

We Started off in Swan River and had another rough weekend! The team battled and made in to a C qualifer only to lose a tough game to a hot Jacobson team who ended up losing the final.

After Swan River we had a couple days to relax before we jumped on the plane to the Grand Slam of Curling. The Slams are always a fantastic event with the best ice! Our first day we played Gushue then Martin and then Stoughton! Quite the way to ease into the event. We had a couple very good battles but ended up going winless in our first day. The second day we split our games and ended the week with a 1-4 record. The event was great for our team to learn from the top teams who are all gunning for an Olympic Berth.

Our third stop in November was to Morris. We started off very strong and put ourselves in a very good position to qualify! Unfortunately we lost a couple heartbreak games on last rock and ended up going home empty handed once again.

Our final stop was the MCT championships in Beausejour, Manitoba. This was the weekend it seemed like we finally came together as a unit. We rolled through the A side and finally won that elusive qualifier. We battled all weekend and found ourselves undefeated and playing in the Final! This game was big for our team because if we won we would have secured our spot for the Safeway Championship at the MTS Iceplex. Unfortunately we ran into an extremely hot skip and lost in an extra end! Overall MCT Championships was a great event for us and we are looking forward to our next event which is the Winnipeg Regionals.

Once again thanks for your support,

November 7, 2013:

Edmonton: was a better result event for us as we qualified into the final 8 teams and lost a tough quarterfinal game.

Portage: we did not have a good weekend with 1 win and 3 losses. I attribute it to travel and the team being a little worn out after our trip to Edmonton.

We are coming off our 2 week break from competition and the team had a minor set back with me injuring my back. It looks like everything is now back on track and we leave tomorrow (Nov 8) for Swan River. We hope all goes well. We will try to qualify for the final 8 teams and take it from there, which is always our goal at every event.

Our team got some exciting news 2 weeks ago. We have been invited to the Canadian Open (Grand Slam) in Medicine Hat Nov 13 – 17. This event is some of the best curling in the world and we happily accepted the invitation. This event is televised live by Sportsnet so hopefully we get some TV coverage, which would mean we are doing well in the event. Very exciting for us as we open our first day of play Thursday, November 14th against Team Brad Gushue. Then Team Kevin Martin and later on that same day Team Jeff Stoughton.  As they say, easy day at the office.  Friday will see us play Team Laycock and then Team Switzerland. Our goal is to make the playoffs and see what happens from there. Sportsnet will cover 2 games Thursday, 2 games Friday, then the quarter and semi final and the final on Sunday.

We now have a busy stretch of 4 events in a row. Time to start putting some wins together.

Swan River Nov 8 – 11 • Canadian Open Nov 13 – 17 • Morris Nov 21 – 24 • MCT Championship Nov 28 – Dec 1

October 8, 2013:

Guys again I would like to thank you all for your sponsorship. We truly are all one team and without your support it would not be possible for us to compete at the highest level.

We kicked off our first weekend in Saskatoon 2 weeks ago, and the results were not what we wanted, but the team played very well and showed signs of brilliance which I believe will only show up in the weeks and months ahead of us. We did beat the reigning Saskatchewan Champs, and lost a close battle to the 3rd ranked team in the world, Koe. We beat 2012 Manitoba Provincial and Brier bronze medalist Fowler. So, all in all there were some pluses even though we did not make the final 8 team playoff.

We leave Thursday for Edmonton and you can follow our team @ www.worldcurl.com. Just click on the event and you can follow the draw and line scores live.

Thanks again,
Team Lyburn
